The National Tourism Administration found out which countries left the most money in Vietnam last year
First place was taken by guests from Australia. Each Australian spent an average of 36.6 million VND (1,570 USD) on holidays in Vietnam. Last year, the SRV received 387,000 tourists from the continent. This is 4.5% more than the year before.
The second place was occupied by Russians – 33.9 million VND (1,460 USD).
They are followed by Americans (1,395 USD), Koreans (1,120 USD) and Britons (1,094 USD).
Most tourists came to Vietnam last year from China – 4.9 million people. But they spent an average of 19 million VND (818 USD). This is only the eighth place in the report. Malaysia (750 USD) and Thailand (715 USD) are in the top ten.
Average expenses of all foreigners in Vietnam amounted to 1 065 USD.
In 2018, the country received 15.58 million foreigners, which is 20% more than in the previous year. Tourists brought Vietnam an income of 16.5 billion USD. This is 60% of the total income of the tourism industry.
Overall, tourism contributed 8.39% of GDP to Vietnam. The country is going to increase this figure to 10% by 2020. It is expected that by that time the number of foreign tourists will have reached 20 million and their income will have reached 35 billion USD.
Last year, 606,000 Russians visited Vietnam, which is 4% more than last year’s figures. SRV is the first resort in Southeast Asia in terms of popularity among tourists from Russia.
