Thailand became the world’s largest rubber exporter

The Department for Trade Development reported that Thailand is the world’s largest rubber exporter, partly because of free trade agreements with many countries over the past year

Auramon Saptwiteham, CEO of VTR, said she is monitoring rubber exports to Thailand. In 2018, Thailand exported more than USD 4.6 billion worth of rubber, representing 1.82% of Thailand’s total exports. The leader among consumers is China, which accepted 1.96 billion USD of Thai rubber, which is 43% of total exports of Thai rubber. Other major markets are Southeast Asia, the US, Japan and South Korea.

Leadership in rubber exports was partly the result of 13 free trade agreements between Thailand and 18 countries. This allowed Thailand to significantly increase its trade turnover with new markets.
