Vietnam may not reach 18 million tourists in 2019

The slowdown in foreign tourism in the first seven months casts doubt on the 18 million arrivals target

Over the first half of Vietnam, 9.8 million foreigners visited. This is 7.9% more than the same period last year. However, the growth rate has fallen. So, in the first seven months of 2018, tourist growth amounted to 25.4%.

One of the main reasons is the slowdown in China. According to the report of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT), the number of Chinese tourists in Vietnam fell by 2.8% compared to the same period last year.

To achieve the goal of 18 million tourists, Vietnam will have to attract another 1.5 million people each month.

VNAT is committed to promoting Vietnam both in China and in other Asian countries. In the first six months, two tourism fairs were organized in China, and one in South Korea. Vietnam will continue to conduct economic, sports and cultural exchange events in these two areas over the next five months.

This year, good growth (at least in Nha Trang) showed Malaysian and Thai tourists. The number of guests from Korea is seriously growing. In the past Tet, they even overtook the number of Chinese. The number of Russians, who increasingly prefer Vietnam to Thailand, has also increased.
