This year, Vietnamese private low-cost carrier, Vietjet Air, will open two new direct routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang to Tokyo

Vietjet Air is expected to launch daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo from July 12. The flight will take six hours one way. Flight Danang-Tokyo should start from October 26th. Each flight will take about seven hours.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Fook took part in the launch ceremony in Tokyo on Monday during his official visit to Japan after attending the G20 summit in Osaka. Recall, there the official met with Vladimir Putin.

Vietjet currently has three direct flights between Vietnam and Japan: Ho Chi Minh-Osaka, Hanoi-Osaka and Hanoi-Tokyo.

In recent years, Vietnamese carriers open new international flights, as inbound tourism is gaining momentum. Last year, 34,000 Vietnamese visited Japan, which is 36.7% more than a year ago.

The number of Vietnamese residents working and living in Japan jumped 26.1% from last year to 330,835, which is 8 percent of foreign citizens in the country.

Japan is the third largest source of market for Vietnamese tourism after China and South Korea. Last year, Vietnam received more than 820,000 Japanese tourists, which is 3.6 percent more than a year ago.
